Did you know Victoria suffers from a serious cat overpopulation problem? Each year thousands of healthy cats and kittens are destroyed because shelters are unable to find suitable homes for them. The Lost Dogs Home, in conjunction with the state government, have launched the Who's For Cats campaign, aimed at raising awareness and finding a solution for this huge problem. Winners!

Last month we held our Valentine's Day competition, entrants told us how they spent Valentine's Day with their dogs and one lucky winner won their dog a Pooch Pamper Pack valued at $100! Here is the winning entry as well as the runners up.

Judy Small
Dogs: Ben and Anzac

Valentine's Day is also Ben's birthday, so we celebrate by having their favourite, 4Legs Home Cooked Chicken & Pasta - they each get an extra serve!

Then it's off in the car for a drive and a stop off at the supermarket. The secret to stop them barking and keeping them well behaved is to leave an unopened pack of 4Legs on the car seat beside them.

They can't take their eyes off it and happily sit there willing the pack to open!

They really love their 4Legs!

Runners up have won a Chukka pack containing a ball launcher and three balls.

Darrell & Jenni Burdett
Dogs: Monte & Ella (and Itchy the cat!)

Claire Webb
Dog: Oscar

Q & A - Chocolate Dramas

Q. Can I share my Easter treats with my dog?

A.
Chocolate can cause serious problems with pooches as it contains a chemical called Theobromine.

In humans this chemical triggers the release of the feel-good hormone, Seratonin (which is why we feel so good when we eat chocolate), however in dogs it can cause poisoning.

As little as 50g of chocolate can cause serious health complications, upsetting their digestive system and leading to symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting and nausea. Chocolate can prove fatal when symptoms increase to include high blood pressure, irregular heat beat and seizures.

Keep all chocolate and baked goods well out of reach, if your dog does injest any chocolate contact your vet immediately for advice.
